Yes, it was persistence that makes the English layout different. Having been seeking hard for opportunities for a long time at the beginning, we are now finally able to provide English lovers with a wonderful stage to show their talents. Having been groping around for the past two years, from English Corner and Memories to Festivals and Civilization, and then to today’s Events, we now begin to form our own ideas. At the start of the third year, Events Column is brought out to you, with news elements integrated into emotion and culture so as to make it closer to real life.
Beginning with the terrible earthquake in Wenchuan, this month’s Events will bring you back to the events in the first half of 2008, showing you all the exciting, mournful, and stories. When we look back on the past, dear readers, remember that life is still in progression. What we have to do is learn to be strong and dedicated. After all, the destination lies absolutely in the future……
没有舞台，自己搭建；没有机会，自己创造。正是这份倔强，让《中文联合报》的英文版面，撑起了英文阅读爱好者的一片天空。从“英语角”、“记忆”到“节日”、“文明”，再到今天的“大事记”，历经两年摸索，英文版开始逐步形成自己的办报思路。在本报创刊的第三个年头，我们推出【EVENTS】。
本期EVENTS将从5月12日的汶川大地震谈起，回顾2008上半年的大事，将其中的激励、悲伤、感动一一呈现。读者们，在回首灾难之时，生活仍要继续。我们能做的就是在前行的路上学会坚强，学会互助。毕竟，前行的目的永远是未来……（文/思敏）
